Travel Medicine

InterMed’s Travel Medicine Clinic provides consultation for anyone planning to travel abroad. The Travel Clinic is staffed by physicians who are Board-certified in tropical and infectious diseases, and they are all state-certified providers for yellow fever vaccine. The traveler’s itinerary is reviewed, so that appropriate vaccinations, malaria prophylaxis, food and water precautions, and educational material can be recommended.  Our goal is to promote and ensure safety and health during travel - for pleasure or business - to foreign countries.   Appointments for the Travel Clinic can be made directly by calling (207) 774-5816.

 

Immunizations

An important part of preparing for travel is immunizations. Immunization decisions are based on individualized considerations, such as the traveler’s general state of health, proposed itinerary, anticipated activities, and length of stay.

The following is a partial list of immunizations offered through the Travel Clinic:

  • Hepatitis A and B
  • Inactivated polio
  • Meningococcal
  • Typhoid
  • Japanese encephalitis
  • Rabies
  • Tetanus and Diphtheria
  • Yellow fever (State-certified providers)

The Returning Traveler

Since some illnesses can emerge weeks after returning home. We encourage the returning traveler to call us, especially in cases of intestinal illnesses, fevers, and rashes which persist or develop weeks or months after returning.
