Bill Ervin, MD

Internist

I have been practicing internal medicine with a focus on diabetes in Portland for over 30 years. After leaving a teaching position at University of Vermont College of Medicine, I joined a five member internal medicine group (Bove Saunders Whitney Bryant and Ervin). I then encouraged and assisted in our merger with other physician groups to establish what has now become InterMed.

Diabetes is my interest. Since arriving in Portland I have started and directed the Diabetes Centers at both Maine Medical Center and at Mercy Hospital, helping to create up-to-date care facilities for patients with diabetes. Currently I am the task force chair for Diabetes Care at InterMed ensuring quality of care throughout the group. Through my interest in diabetes, I have been asked and have participated in clinical research as a Principal Investigator developing new treatments for diabetes for years. It has been very interesting and rewarding. Recently, InterMed has formed a Clinical Research Division, of which I am director, and we now investigate therapies and medical devices for a wide range of diseases.

Portland has offered a wonderful balance, allowing access to culture, education, and outdoor activities for me and my two boys. We enjoy golfing, fly fishing, and skiing. I continue to enjoy my life and workplace in Portland.
