COVID booster now authorized for children 5-11 years old
May 23, 2022
Dear InterMed patient,
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week authorized a Pfizer COVID booster dose for children ages 5-11. The action follows the expansion of eligibility by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Children in this age group are eligible to receive the booster if they completed their primary series at least five months ago (Dec. 19, 2022 or earlier). Vaccination, masking and frequent testing remain our best tools in this ongoing fight against the pandemic.
Scheduling your child’s booster
We encourage patients to receive the vaccine when they are eligible. Although our appointment availability for administering vaccine is limited at this time, vaccine supplies are plentiful in the community. We encourage you to have your child boosted as soon as possible, whether at school, a pharmacy or another community vaccination clinic. The State of Maine maintains a list of community vaccine sites. If your child receives vaccine outside of InterMed, please send us an image of their card through the Secure File Upload on our website so that we can update your child’s records.
If you would like to pursue scheduling a booster vaccination for your child at InterMed, please call our Vaccine Scheduling Line at 207-523-3919 to discuss your options. Alternatively, if your child already has an upcoming visit booked, you can request they receive a booster during that appointment.
Please stay safe and well.
