PORTLAND, MAINE — October 24, 2023 — InterMed, Maine’s largest independent, physician-owned practice, commemorates its 30th anniversary on October 28, 2023. Established in 1993 with a mission to provide patient-centered primary care complemented by integrated specialty services, InterMed has grown to serve more than 100,000 patients across the state with a dedicated team of more than 900 clinicians and staff.

From its inception with the merger of three local, independent Internal Medicine practices to its current standing as a leading healthcare provider in Maine, InterMed has consistently upheld its founding principles of patient-centric care, exceptional quality, and market-leading value while seeking to meet the needs of Mainers. Within five years of coming together, InterMed added Pediatrics, Family Medicine and Ob-Gyn service lines, rounding out its robust offering of primary care services in the community. Continuing to add a new specialty or service line every two years on average, InterMed has grown steadily from 20 physicians to more than 150 physicians and advance practice professionals, making the organization the largest physician-owned medical practice in Maine.

Today, with three campuses, a two operating room Ambulatory Surgical Center and expansion plans for a new facility on the horizon in Scarborough, InterMed continues to set the standard for health outcomes and quality in the state.

In celebration of this remarkable milestone, InterMed will be marking the anniversary with a celebratory event focusing on the accomplishments of its family of physicians and staff. In addition, InterMed will announce a significant one-time donation to a local charity next week.
