Vaccine eligiblity expanding

. Posted in Coronavirus

Dear Patient,

The State announced this afternoon that all Mainers age 16 and older will become eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, April 7. Many of you are wondering when and how you can schedule your vaccination appointment.

Thus far, we have focused our vaccine efforts on patients at greatest risk of serious complication from COVID. We will finish our outreach to that group in the coming days and then will open appointments to all patients age 16 and older next week.

Look for an email from InterMed on Tuesday morning with instructions on scheduling your vaccination appointment through our online scheduling platform.

While Maine expects an increase in doses in late April or early May, our current vaccine allocation remains very limited. If you are unable to find an available appointment, please be patient. Each Thursday, we learn our allotment for the coming week, and open appointments based on that number.

We also ask that you please do not call our office with questions about scheduling a vaccine so that we may keep phone lines open for patients with acute medical needs.

There are many options in the community to receive the vaccine and access varies by site. The State offers a comprehensive list of vaccination sites and VaccineFinder.org is an additional resource for those in search of a specific vaccine. We encourage patients to book the soonest appointment available – even if outside of InterMed. If you do receive the vaccine elsewhere, please let your provider know so we can add it to your medical records.

As always please continue to follow CDC guidelines of covering your nose and mouth with a mask, practicing social distancing, and washing hands regularly. The number of cases in our state is creeping up again, and these steps, combined with a growing number of people who have been vaccinated, will help drive it back down.

Please stay safe and well,

Dan Loiselle, MD, Chief Medical Officer, and the entire InterMed Care Team
