Dear Patient,

Yesterday, the CDC issued guidelines for administering booster shots of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Booster shots for the Pfizer vaccine were approved last month:

Moderna and Pfizer boosters
For individuals who received a Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, the following groups are eligible for a booster shot at 6 months or more after their initial series:

• 65 years and older
• Age 18+ who live in long-term care settings
• Age 18+ who have underlying medical conditions
• Age 18+ who work or live in high-risk settings

Johnson & Johnson
If you received the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine: booster shots are recommended for those who are 18 and older and who were vaccinated two or more months ago.

Which booster should I get?
The CDC has allowed for mixing and matching, which means you may opt for the same vaccine as your original regiment or switch to a different vaccine. The CDC makes no specific recommendation and leaves the choice to you.
