Anne Marie Van Hengel, MD
I am Dutch, but was born in the U.S. and grew up moving all over the world. As I finished my A levels in England my parents were transferred to Japan so I chose to come to college in the States. I went to Brown and then attended UVM Medical School. I came to Maine in 1986 as a UVM medical student, met my husband, completed my residency and have been here ever since! I was part of Generations from its inception and through its inclusion within InterMed. It has been great being a part of such a forward-looking, dynamic organization. I also had the pleasure of being chief of OB/GYN at Mercy Hospital from 2005 – 2011.
I enjoy the wide range of care that I provide as an OB/GYN but I take particular pleasure in being a part of a very important time in people’s lives: taking care of a couple during their pregnancy and delivering their child is a privilege and joy that never diminishes for me.
I am a mother myself of a 19-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son who keep me busy and inspired. In whatever free time I have, I enjoy creating things in ways that are constantly changing!
