Emily Wellerritter, FNP, DNP
I grew up on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan. I attended Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and graduated with my bachelor of nursing in 1999. After traveling around a bit to the South, my husband and I settled in Cumberland, Maine, in 2007. I worked in diabetes as a RN certified diabetes educator for several years before returning to school.
I graduated with my family nurse practitioner degree from the University of South Alabama in 2009 and practiced in family practice. In 2016, my husband and I decided to move to Minnesota to work at Mayo Clinic, where I worked as a nephrology nurse practitioner. Working in such a multicultural clinic I wanted to further my education and graduated with my doctor of nursing practice with a focus on transcultural health in 2018. After almost 6 years of missing Maine, we decided to move back and just returned this July.
As a nurse practitioner, I love the complexities of internal medicine. I especially love working with older adults, patients with resistant hypertension, diabetes and kidney disease. I find the relationships that are built with patients and their families so rewarding. I love seeing patients year after year and helping to guide them through both health and illness.
In my free time I enjoy being with my 16-year-old son, 18-year-old daughter, husband and 1-year-old dog Oliver. I enjoy anything outside, especially hiking, kayaking, Nordic and alpine skiing and gardening.
