Laureen Biczak, DO

Infectious Diseases Specialist

My name is Laureen Biczak, and I’m an infectious disease specialist. I’ve been practicing medicine for a little over 26 years in Portland. I am board-certified in both internal medicine and infectious disease, but I now focus my practice exclusively on infectious disease issues.

I’ve lived in Maine since junior high and consider myself a “Mainer.” I attended the University of New England for medical school and went to the University of Connecticut for my infectious disease training. I love living in Maine and enjoy travel, fishing, bird-watching and walking the woods with my family and our cockapoo, Jupiter.

I am fascinated with the practice of infectious disease, including travel medicine and care for people living with HIV. Working at InterMed allows me to work collaboratively with a great team including the nurses, the staff and the other doctors. I practice in both the hospital and office. I enjoy getting to know my patients while helping to decipher their unique medical problem and helping them to understand it, and then working collaboratively to manage it. I do think of the practice of infectious disease a bit like detective work and consider myself a partner to my patients in their medical care.
