Mary Becker, MD

Palliative Care & Urgent Care Physician

I have been a physician for 28 years, and I love what I do. My primary area of interest is wellness: how can we each live as well as possible for as long as possible. To me wellness includes our physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and sexual health. I believe what we eat, how we move our bodies, how we spend our time and with who are all essential to our wellness. I love the connections with patients that happens in medicine and the ongoing learning the practice demands.

I am a board certified in both Emergency Medicine and Palliative Medicine (Palliative Care is a new medical specialty that focuses on maximizing quality of life for patients with serious illness and for their families. It provides an additional layer of support for patients to get help with symptoms, explore and discuss their goals and plan for the future.) Sometimes people are surprised when I tell them that I work in both fields. To me both are about connecting with patients where each is at and working together to maximize wellness.

Some factoids about me: I am mom to three awesome young adults and live in the Portland area with my partner and some pets, including honeybees. I love stand up comedy and am currently working on spending less of my free time on my tech devices.

Come see me in Urgent Care or in Palliative Medicine, and let’s work together to get you feeling as well as you can.
