Starting at age 11, I have wanted to be a physician. My mother was a registered nurse and manager of the emergency department at our local hospital; I began volunteering there, and I was hooked. I realized that Internal Medicine was my future during internship, and I have loved practicing general Internal Medicine for the last 35 years. While practicing primary care, I have also been a dedicated educator. I have been a Director of Medical Education, Designated Institutional Official (ACGME title for Director of Residency Training in a Teaching Hospital), Program Director, and an Associate Professor and Assistant Dean at an Osteopathic Medical school.
As a doctor, I love being a part of people's lives. They trust me to help guide them into a healthy life. I try to be a patient listener and then engage in a conversation that allows me to educate them so we can arrive at a plan together. I hope that working at a practice owned and run by physicians will allow my patients to be the most important part of the practice, something I found to be missing in hospital-owned practices. When I am not seeing patients, my wife and I enjoy traveling, hiking, and playing with our grandchildren.
