A New Englander, I grew up in Vermont before moving to Massachusetts for college.

I’ve always had a personal appreciation for a good physical adventure and continually find myself drawn to work in that spirit. After college, I led recreational activities for children with visual, physical and cognitive impairments at destinations ranging from Boston Harbor to the mountains of Maine.

This work led me to medicine, and I graduated from UMass Medical school in 2008. It was during my residency at Maine Medical Center that I discovered the field of sports medicine. What luck that I could continue helping people focus on their physical adventures!

Sports medicine is about traditional sports, both organized and recreational, but it’s equally about the everyday athletics of living — those adventures that occur in the backyard, the assisted living facility, the school playground or the living room — that occur standing, seated, skipping or using a cane.

I’ve had the good fortune to practice sports medicine locally in both orthopedic and primary care settings prior to joining InterMed. I’ve learned a lot from my patients, but mostly that it comes down to truly listening to the unique set of circumstances around each problem, and then collaborating for the best fitting individual solution. Whether it’s running free again at recess or dancing at a daughter’s wedding, it’s about helping people get back to their own physical adventure that brings me the greatest professional joy.
