COVID vaccine booster shots
Dear Patient,
We anticipate that the FDA is very close to approving COVID booster shots (a third shot) for people with a compromised immune system.
These individuals are more likely to become seriously ill from COVID and because of their condition, may not have achieved ideal coverage from the initial COVID vaccine series. A booster shot may support an added level of protection.
We understand that the first booster approval will be for the Pfizer vaccine and the recommendation will be to stay with the original vaccine you received.
In anticipation of the FDA’s decision, InterMed has identified our patients who would be approved for the booster under the FDA’s criteria. If you are on this list, we will contact you to schedule an appointment.
The FDA and CDC continue to review vaccine data and will provide guidance if and when the general population should receive a booster. We await that decision and will notify our patients as soon as we learn more.
The highly-contagious delta variant is calling for heightened vigilance. Please continue to wear masks when appropriate and wash your hands regularly. These, combined with the COVID vaccine, are our way out of this pandemic.
Please stay safe and well.
Dan Loiselle, MD, Chief Medical Officer, and the entire InterMed Care Team
