InterMed offering 3-D mammograms
InterMed patients will soon have the option of a three-dimensional mammogram, also known as Digital Breast Tomosynthesis.
Two new mammogram units — at our Foden Road and Marginal Way locations — are capable of producing either the current two-dimensional scan or a 3-D image.
Similar to a CAT scan, the new units create images of a patient’s breast in slices about a millimeter apart, and then combine them into a more detailed picture.
The estimated additional cost of the technical component is $75, in addition to the radiologist’s reading fee of between $100 and $150. For patients whose insurance covers the procedure, this will be billed to insurance. Check with your insurance company for information about coverage.
The 3-D mammograms begin at Foden Road on June 13 and at Marginal Way on June 15.
