Seasonal flu vaccines available August 30

. Posted in Cold/Flu

Dear Patient,

Fall is quickly approaching, along with a potentially heightened flu-season, but we have you covered. InterMed’s Vaccine Clinic will reopen for seasonal flu shots on Monday, August 30.

A vaccination is the best way to keep the flu at bay, and we strongly recommend that you receive your flu shot this year.

  • InterMed’s Vaccine Clinic opens on August 30 for our adult patients.
  • Pediatric vaccines are expected in mid-September.

The Vaccine Clinic, located at 225 Gorham Road in South Portland, is by appointment, and for InterMed patients only.

Patients between the ages of 6 months and 64 years will receive the quadrivalent vaccine, which offers protection against an additional strain of the virus. Those 65 and older may receive the high dose vaccine, which produces a more robust immune response in that age group.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older receive a flu shot each year. Vaccination is particularly important for those at risk of complications from flu:

  • Adults 65 and older
  • Pregnant or recently-pregnant women
  • Young children

Those with high-risk conditions, such as asthma, heart disease, diabetes, or cancer

Speak with your physician prior to receiving a vaccine if you have a history of severe egg allergy (an egg-free vaccine is available for those 18 years and older), Guillain-Barré syndrome, or an immune system disorder.

Please note that the seasonal vaccine differs from the COVID-19 vaccine. Contact your provider’s office to receive the COVID vaccine.

Please stay safe and well.
