Midwifery Care
Personalized pregnancy and women’s health care, grounded in trust and respect.
InterMed now offers midwifery care with experienced, board-certified nurse-midwives (CNMs). Our midwives provide evidence-based, personalized care for patients through every stage of life – from adolescence through menopause – with a special focus on pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
We believe in forming close, trusting relationships with our patients and families, honoring bodily autonomy, and supporting pregnancy and birth as natural processes. At InterMed, CNMs are part of our collaborative Ob-Gyn team, ensuring you receive comprehensive care tailored to your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM)?
CNMs are advanced practice nurses who have completed a master’s or doctorate-level education program in midwifery and passed a national certifying exam. They specialize in low- to moderate-risk pregnancy care, physiologic labor, and birth, using evidence-based, holistic approaches. Midwives focus on caring for the whole person – physical, emotional, spiritual, and social health – while avoiding unnecessary interventions. Studies show that midwife-led care achieves outcomes equal to physician-led care.
How do certified nurse-midwives differ from Ob-Gyns, nurse-midwives, nurse practitioners, and doulas?
Ob-Gyns are medical doctors or doctors of osteopathy who specialize in complex reproductive health issues, high-risk pregnancies, gynecologic surgeries, and cesarean births.
Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) are advanced practice nurses who provide pregnancy care, birth support, gynecologic services, and family planning.
Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are advanced practice nurses, often focused on office-based reproductive and women’s health care.
Doulas are trained professionals who provide physical and emotional support during labor and postpartum but do not provide medical care.
How do Ob-Gyns, nurse-midwives, nurse practitioners and doulas work together?
At InterMed, patients benefit from a collaborative care model. Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs), Ob-Gyns, and Nurse Practitioners (NPs) work side-by-side to ensure safe, comprehensive care. Doulas can be hired privately for additional labor and postpartum support, and our team is happy to provide community doula referrals upon request.
